Ngek's World

Welcome to Ngek’s World---welcome to my universe! Hey, it’s something not far different from yours. It is reality written down---thoughts anonymously shared in cyberspace of just about anything under the sun. Feel free to explore this world. You might just find valuable answers to some of life’s questions. Or simply be lost with me in my uncertainties on some things in life.

Ngek's Diary

Yesterday, a very handsome man tried helping me out in what you can say, one of those stupid things you can do in an airport---lock yourself out from an engine-running car with your keys in the ignition and with your spare keys inside your bag located in the locked car.

For a 30 something happily married woman, I still found myself giggling inside and stammer whenever I tried explaining to him how I single-handedly locked myself out. Funny? But really, I felt very stupid however, happy! At least, instead of lashing out myself for this terrible incident, I actually thanked the Lord for having this real gorgeous and helpful man as part of my day. All's well that ends well, they say!

It is really a big lie when they say, happily married women never turn their heads to check out guys other than their husband. Ha, we do! But like our male counterparts we just look, stare and the most, giggle our hearts out inside. So, we say!

Ngek’s A-list: A Guide to Some of the Best Things in Ngek’s World

1. Flip-flops - Havaianas. Pronounced as ha-va-ya-nas. Pricy yet comfy. It's the world best foot wear. Soft flexible rubber in cool fashionable colors. Wear ‘em, collect ‘em and have a great time talking about ‘em with your friends. It's quality foot wear and a great conversation piece rolled into one.

2. Underwear - Triumph International; True to its tag line: "Fashion And So Much More," it's high-quality underwear that is value-priced to my liking. Meaning, I don't mind spending P 500 to P 1,000 on brassieres that will give me lasting comfort while making me feel sexy all the time.

3. Song - "What Might Have Been" by Lou Pardini; It's all about elbow-biting moments and endless questionings of things you could have done differently in life.

4. Movie - Kingdom of Heaven. Don't you just love Orlando Bloom? Though Balian is a fictional character, one can't help wonder if indeed such a knight existed.

5. Book - Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. It was the only book that made me scream while I was reading it. Has a book ever made you scream? If so, I guess, that makes me normal.

6. Jeans - Guess by Georges Marciano; Nice fit; affordably-priced; best bought during end season sale, which is once every three months; Men's sized 33 is equivalent to women's plus-sized 14; just do the math if you know what I mean---oh well, you'll always be assured of a size no matter how big you are.

7. Watch - Swatch; It's swatch or nothing; stylish, comfy and goes well with my mood swings; I can even swim, shower and get wet without removing. And oh, I also enjoy collecting them. Nothing fancy like jeweled watches. But the Irony Line can get you to any formal affair with practicality and class.

8. Beach - Boracay! Haven't been to any other beach outside the Philippines but I can say, it's the world best beach. Why? It's the sugary fine sand. It's like no other!

9. Best Resort - Plantation Bay in Cebu. It's a resort like no other. Imagine enjoying the salty beach without fear of a shark attack or stepping on those nasty sea urchins. You can save a lot on tips as the resort strictly implements a "No tipping policy."

10. Cellphone - Nokia. With all its complicated features in every phone, it is still very easy to use. Now, that's connecting people with their phone!

Ngek Speaks

I always wonder why people want to run for public office. In a country where a town mayor earns a monthly pay of P 30,000 or a total of P 1,080,000 for the entire 3-year term and spends no less than P 3 million for a decent campaign without any assurance of winning, that is some passion for public service. But thinking of the economics of it all, I really find it ridiculous. So, here are what I think the three reasons why people run for public office:

1. They really want to serve their country without counting the cost.
2. They are so poorly skilled that they can't find a decent job or livelihood in the private sector.
3. They want to enrich themselves with taxpayer's money while in public office.
